Who we are

CraftVenturous is published by Infinitely Many Hats, LLC. This policy covers https://craftventurous.com and our blog at blog.craftventurous.com. You can reach us any time through our contact page.

The short version

• We have no accounts, no logins, and no comments. There is nothing to sign up for.
• Google Analytics only runs if you accept it. Reject it and it is never loaded — no script, no cookie.
• We count page views with a cookieless tool that cannot identify you. That one always runs.
• If you email us, we keep the email. That is what email is.
• We do not sell or rent your personal information. We never have.

What we collect

When you contact us

Our contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject, and a message. We use these only to read and reply. The message is delivered to our inbox by Mailgun, our email provider.

How long we keep it. We’re not going to quote you a tidy number, because we’d rather tell you the truth than a schedule we don’t keep to. It’s email in a mailbox: we keep a message while it still serves the reason you sent it — an open conversation, a correction we’re acting on, a question that might come back — and it goes when it doesn’t. Once a thread is finished and there’s no live reason to hold it, it’s just clutter to us too.

What we will commit to is the part that’s actually in your hands: ask us to delete your correspondence and we will, promptly, no reason needed. That is a firmer promise than a retention window, because you can hold us to it.

The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that you are a person and not a spam bot. Turnstile is strictly necessary to keep the form usable, so it runs without asking. It is designed not to track you across sites.

When you read the site

Vercel Web Analytics counts page views. It sets no cookies and stores no personal information — visitors are identified by a one-way hash of the request, which cannot be tied back to you or followed across sites. Because it cannot identify you, it needs no consent and always runs.

Google Analytics 4 tells us which reviews and trails people actually read. It does set cookies and process personal data, including your IP address and a device identifier, so we do not load it at all unless you accept it. If you reject it — or never answer — the script is never requested and no Google cookie is ever set. You can change your mind any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer; switching to reject also deletes the Google cookies already on your device.

Our host, Vercel, keeps short-lived server logs (including IP addresses) to deliver the site and defend it from abuse. This is standard hosting infrastructure and we cannot switch it off.

Cookies and similar technologies

• cv.analytics-consent — not a cookie but a small entry in your browser’s local storage, remembering whether you accepted or rejected analytics. Strictly necessary; without it we would have to ask on every page.
• _ga, _gid — Google Analytics. Only ever set if you accept. Used to tell repeat visits from new ones.
• Cloudflare Turnstile — a security check on the contact form only. Strictly necessary.
• Our blog — blog.craftventurous.com runs on Ghost. If you subscribe to updates, Ghost sets a cookie to remember your subscription. That only happens if you subscribe.

Third parties, including Amazon and other advertisers, may serve content, collect information directly from you, and set or read cookies on your browser when you follow links from our pages. We do not control those cookies. Where the law gives you a right to opt out of online advertising, you can exercise it directly with those companies — Google Analytics offers a browser opt-out add-on, and most browsers let you block or delete cookies entirely.

Some links on this site are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. When you follow one, Amazon may set cookies and collect information about the visit under its own privacy notice, not this one. We are never told who you are — only that a sale happened. Affiliate links are marked on the pages that carry them.

We only ever link to gear: glassware, camp kitchen, outdoor equipment. We do not sell alcohol and we take no commission on any beverage.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf: Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics), Mailgun (delivering contact email), Cloudflare (the Turnstile bot check), Ghost (our blog and its newsletter), and — only with your consent — Google (Analytics). We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

If you are in the UK or EU

Our legal bases are: your consent for Google Analytics, which you may withdraw at any time from the footer; legitimate interests for replying to your mail, keeping the site online, and counting page views in a way that cannot identify you.

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict our use of it, to data portability, and to complain to your national supervisory authority. To exercise any of these, just write to us — there is no form to fill in. Because we hold so little, most requests are answered in a sentence.

Our providers are largely US-based, so your data may be processed in the United States under the relevant safeguards, including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.

If you are in the United States

Depending on your state you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of — but the other rights are yours on request, free of charge, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

Children

This site is written for adults of legal drinking age and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change what we collect or who we send it to, we will update this page and move the effective date above. If the change is material — a new tracker, say — we will ask for your consent again rather than assume the old answer still stands.
